Following the Light
Wheel Thrown and Hand-built Ceramics
This entirely ceramic series reflects my personal journey through life. Relationships, like the intricate patterns on a moths wings, are both delicate and essential to self-discovery. Each moth in the series carries symbolic meaning, from self-love to life’s cyclical nature. This series fuses historic ceramic vessels and a material exploration with a sprinkle of moth symbolism. I draw from the pagan belief that moths inherently represent transformation through suffering, as well as serve as messages from ancestors, guiding us towards our life’s path. These moths have a range of underlining meanings as well, such as the Rosy Maple Moth found on Motherly Light, which represents the universal love of oneself and others. The entire piece depicts my mother’s unwavering guidance. Where as the Tiger Harness Moths found on This Too Shall Pass portray the spark of inspiration, the entire piece reflects my relationship with creativity – both expressive and meditative. The centerpiece, Despite everything, it’s still you., is a self portrait afriming that,
no matter how broken one may feel,
love remains.
